1989 Dodge D100 has poor acceleration. What is causing it?

D100
Samiam asked:

I have a 1989 Dodge D100 pickup (318 V8), It has over 300,000 kms on the engine. It bogs down when I try to accelerate, especially after turning a corner it also slows down on hills. I have been told that it may be the catalytic converter may need replacing or that it is a weak torque converter or is the old girl just to tired?.

  1. it could be something easy like the fuel filter or get the fuel injection looked at but your right it could very well be the catalytic converter as well

  2. Might need a timing chain

  3. I’ve got to agree with the timing chain I’ve seen many with over 300,000 miles and have had a friend with a 1988 diplomat ex police ex cab with over 600,000 never rebuilt and still pretty pepy after a cam and timing change.
