The Sprint SIM card included in Kindle and the internet browser installed in the experimental menu, allow to surf the web without limits or only on certain sites?

  1. The Kindle runs on Sprint’s EvDO network.. that’s a CDMA network, not GSM.. thus, no SIM card. But it does have built-in 3G cellular modem. And Amazon pays all connection costs, other than when you email something directly to your Kindle… that costs 10 cents.

Since Amazon is essentially footing the bill for access time, they like to see something out it.. like a book sale/delivery. So it’s likely that Amazon’s site works really well. And they feature Wikipedia access as a “feature”, but of course, Wikipedia is very simple HTML.

The story so far is that, yes, you can browse for free. But you’re not going to have much success at sites other than for text and graphics.. which of course, only come in monochrome. And the “digital paper” display may be a bit slow for a great web experience. No PDF support, either. Of course, any of this stuff could change as they continue to develop the device.

Although the Kindle can play audiobooks, they aren’t letting it download those over the air… you have to sync them through your PC. The books they send are very small, as it’s text and monochrome low-res graphics.
